Mission to Patagonia

<<< Back to Latest News

Well, our first international visit as Wales revival Alliance is complete and I'm pleased to be able to say, "Mission accomplished, and objectives achieved". What struck us most was the incredible warmth and love shown to us by the Argentinians and Patagonians. It was quite overwhelming. Our 4 drivers who drove us all around Patagonia even cried when we left. We were also struck by the tremendous favour and grace of God on the whole trip.  So many doors were flung wide open!  The Lord is building a bridge between the two nations, and we have agreed that if revival comes first to Wales we will spread it in Patagonia and vice versa.

The Patagonians were very sad to hear that less than 1% of the Welsh are now professing a faith in Jesus Christ and many of these may not even be born again.  They are committed to praying for our nation as we are for theirs. The Welsh government has publicly invited the 4 pastors we worked with to the St David's Day Parliamentary Prayer breakfast next March.  The Lord has made it quite clear we are to return next year, and we are believing for an even greater harvest of souls and a mighty outpouring of His Spirit. Around 300 people gave their lives to the Lord for the first time on this mission and another 300 or so made recommitments. There were numerous healings, deliverances, and miracles. Thank you for partnering with us in prayer and intercession. All Glory to God!

Here is some commentary from the church leaders in Patagonia following our mission:

"Revivals do not go out. In the 1900s, one of the strongest revivals in history exploded, and it would hit the coast of Argentina, in the province of Chubut, establishing the first Welsh colonies. The reality of Wales today, is that only 1% congregate, when in times of revival there was a church working on every block, but that 1% is enough to rekindle the fire, and what used to be a distant colony today burns by the fire of His presence. We appreciate the visit from our Welsh brothers who stayed with us. It was shocking to see every Intendent, government officials opening the doors to hear the message they brought 100 years ago that still holds true. We are a bridge of revival. Among the visit was the grandson of the Welsh Revivalist Seth Joshua, today we reconnect to this story where the Holy Spirit manifests himself in communion, miracles, and signs. This is just the beginning!"

Such encouraging words, and we are now planning our 2025 return mission. Below follows a detailed report on the 2024 mission.

Saturday March 23rd, 2024; After 22 hours of travel, it was such an honour to be with this amazing team of students and evangelists here in Argentina.

Our mission started with 3 days in Buenos Aires (BA) where the team got fired up in readiness to travel South to the Welsh colonies in Patagonia. On Sunday March 24th we visited the church of Claudio Friedsen, one of the main evangelists/revivalists in the Argentinian Revival, where the leaders blessed us by the laying on of hands. In the evening, we ministered on the streets of BA where a group of 6 homeless people received Jesus and then at Congress square we led another 18 people to the Lord as well as praying for many others to receive healing.  One man who had tried to kill himself the previous day with a heroin overdose told us he had an encounter with God and felt led to go to Congress square where he met us and was mightily saved and delivered.

That evening we visited a new church plant in BA of about 30 or so young professionals and their families. I preached a sermon on Mark C16 and then the team prayed for many of the congregation where many healings took place. Everyone had an amazingly blessed time.

On Monday 25th March we were privileged to spend five hours with the great Argentinian Revivalist Carlos Annacondia and team, such an honour and privilege. Carlos is an incredible man responsible for the 30-year revival in Argentina.  He is now in his 80s.  It was a wonderful meeting.  We met some of his team and his dear wife, Maria (they have 9 children and many grandchildren). Carlos spoke on the Lord's golden key - the Great Commission!  He encouraged us to focus on this in all our endeavours and we would see much fruit.  He prayed for us as a team and individually and it was a very powerful time and a great privilege to meet such a mighty man of God. He even joined us for lunch afterwards!  We felt so blessed.

On Tuesday 26th March we took a 2-hour internal flight down to Trelew, which is about 800 miles south of BA on the east coast of Patagonia and then drove to the town of Rawson, one of the earliest Welsh settlements, about 30 minutes away.  The landscape there was very different - it is a desert and so very flat and you can see the horizon far away in the distance.  We stayed in 4 apartments and were hosted on the first evening by the main Pentecostal church in Rawson by Pastors Maximiliano and Daniella Gianfelici, they hosted us and welcomed us beautifully, feeding us many, many empanadas (small, delicious meat pasties!).  We were shown the room where boxes containing the 20,000 Spanish booklets of the gospel of John and 5,000 Welsh booklets had arrived. These had been kindly provided by Welsh Senedd member Darren Millar AM.

On Wednesday March 27th we travelled to the city of Rawson where we were hosted in a breakfast reception by the provincial government in City Hall. We were in awe at what the Lord was doing. There were approximately 100 government officials at our reception, many TV stations and press reporters present. The love and respect they have for the Welsh is amazing.

It was 1865 when the first Welsh settlers arrived here, and they brought many Welsh bibles. The Welsh protected the indigenous people and kept them safe from being thrown off their land. This is so touching and highly emotional. I was able to preach the gospel with a very positive response from the government officials including the deputy governor. Our visit has officially been recognised as building a cultural, social and spiritual bridge between Wales and Patagonia. They then showed us a wonderful exhibition of photographs of the Tehuelche people (the native South American Indians) and the Welsh settlers and we did a walking tour of Rawson.  They even showed us a room containing Welsh bibles of the first original settlers.  They explained how the two people groups embraced, helped and supported one another in the very difficult and harsh climate when the settlers arrived.

In the evening of March 27th, we did some training at the large Pentecostal church hosted by Pastors Maxi and Daniella, based in Rawson and then went out on the streets with the local congregation to help them grow in confidence in street evangelism.  I then preached later that evening. There were about 700 People in the crusade, 150 plus came forward for the call of salvation and recommitment. Many came up on the stage for eyesight renewal and everyone who came up got full sight restoration. Healings flowed through the whole team. Worship was still in full flow at 11pm even after the worship team had stopped. A few deliverances took place. One lady had been offered up for Satanic sacrifice as a little girl and raped. Because she ran away from the satanic ring, they cursed her eyes and she's been blind in her right eye ever since. She was set free, her eyesight restored, and she spoke in tongues. Her face was glowing. Personally, I believe we've seen a taste of revival. The Victory celebration broke out in the congregation spontaneously. All glory goes to JESUS.

On Thursday March 28th, 2024, we had a truly amazing evening in the first Welsh chapel for us to visit in Rawson. Pastor Lucas Gibbon brought a beautiful word and then I also spoke. There was a hunger and the Holy Spirit moved in a way where unity was created. We publicly read out the invitation to Ps Lucas from the Welsh government to attend the St DAVIDs day prayer breakfast and celebrations in Cardiff 2025, and he accepted the invitation with great pleasure. We were then hosted to Welsh cakes and their equivalent of bara brith (what they call the "dark bread") and we were overwhelmed by their welcome.  Many of the congregation spoke fluent Welsh and were desperate to speak Welsh! Since we didn't have any fluent Welsh speakers, I led the team in Calon Lan and many other Welsh hymns and it was a lovely time of fellowship.

On Good Friday (March 29th) we drove to Trelew and met the city mayor for coffee at his offices.  I noticed the crucifix hanging on the wall in his office with Jesus still on it.  I explained to the mayor that Jesus is no longer on the cross, gave him the gospel and then led him in a salvation prayer!  The meeting with the city mayor of Trelew went well and we prayed that the Lord would give him wisdom in his decision making in running the city. A good "Good Friday" for him! We were then taken to a museum of the Welsh community, and I prayed for the lovely curator who showed us around the museum and led her to the Lord, the Holy Spirit fell on her resulting in tears of Joy.

That afternoon we were hosted to lunch at another Pentecostal church in Trelew led by the amazing Pastor Martin. We then did some teaching/training and again went out on the streets with the local congregation for street evangelism.  There were many healings and salvations!  I then spoke at their evening service; many were led to the Lord and the team again prayed for many to be healed/delivered.  What was wonderful was that Pastor Lucas from the Welsh chapel joined the service that evening with his mother and was really blessed.  He later told Eva (one of our students) that whilst he honoured the history of the Welsh chapels, he wanted the chapels to be living and not museums. It was wonderful to see his passion and we believe he is the key to the Welsh chapels receiving the Holy Spirit and being set ablaze.

On Easter Saturday we made a beautiful journey inland up the Chubut River to the quaint Welsh town of Gaiman, famous for its tea houses and dark bread.  We were once again hosted to a wonderful reception by the City Mayor and his team who explained the history of the town.  He was a very jolly, spirit filled man and we had a wonderful time.  We were shown around the town, visited the Welsh school and then had an amazing lunch at Pastor Angel's house.  After lunch we went to the Patagonian AOG Bible Institute where we met the leader of the college and then had the opportunity to pray for several of the students.

That evening we ministered to a capacity crowd at Pastor Angel's church in Gaiman.  One of our students, Ghe Ghe Guillott, did an amazing job of sharing her very powerful testimony, I then preached, and many got saved.  I also received a "word of knowledge" that the Lord wanted us to minister to the women in the church who had been abused, whether emotionally, sexually, or physically.  Fourteen women came forward for prayer and just wept and wept in the Presence of the Lord and a great healing work took place.

On Easter Sunday (March 31st), we returned to Centro de Alabanza church hosted by Pastor Maxi and Daniella in Rawson.  I was given the great privilege of giving the Easter Sunday message to a capacity congregation. Before getting up to preach, I fell intensely under the anointing of the Holy spirit and felt the Lord asking me to publicly repent on behalf of the Welsh people for invading the Falkland Islands (Las Malvinas) in 1982.  It was a powerful, moving time. After the service we were hosted to a wonderful lunch banquet of Argentinian meat and then we caught our flight back to Buenos Aires in readiness for our return to the UK.
